The holidays are about people, not chores. Yet when guests are on their way, the house suddenly looks different through their eyes: the kitchen that felt fine yesterday, the bathroom you have been meaning to freshen up, the guest room that became a storage room somewhere along the year.
The kitchen, where everyone gathers. Clear the counters, wipe down cabinet fronts and handles, and clean the sink and faucet until they shine. Empty the fridge of anything past its best, wipe the shelves, and give the oven and stovetop a proper clean.
